On Friday, February 11, 2022, a bright and beautiful sunny day, Ethelyn (Lynn) Salter, our precious Mother & Mawmaw slipped peacefully out of this world and through Heaven's gates. She was a wonderful example of a strong, loving, caring Christian woman and taught us all what it means to have a servant's heart and unconditional love.
Lynn was born on May 13, 1925. She grew up in Gladewater, graduating from Gladewater High School in 1942 and was a flag carrier in the Gladewater High School band. She married Jim Salter and they moved to East Mountain to raise their family. Affectionately known as "Babe" to her family and friends, she soon became known as Mom to her boys and Mawmaw to all her grandkids. Lynn was a faithful member of the East Mountain Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Salter, and son, Bobby Salter. Mawmaw loved her family fiercely and will be missed more than words can express. Her legacy lives on in her 2 sons James (Brenda) and Malcolm (Pam), 7 grandchildren Larisa Pearson (Monte), Krista Salter, Stacey Ratliff, Ben Salter (Tye), Jamie Salter (Candi), Heather Salter, and Celia Lynch (Mark), and 12 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 13 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM at Welch Funeral home in Longview. There will be a graveside service on Monday, February 14 at 3:00PM at the Old East Mountain cemetery, Joe Chase officiating.
A very special thank-you goes out to the loving and caring staff of Hawkins Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care. This amazing staff cared for her for almost 11 years, as though she was their family!
