Elizabeth Anne (Betty) Bryan Norman passed away at Reunion Inn in Marshall on August 21, 2023.
Betty was born on December 14, 1925 in Tyler, Texas to Louis Bennett Bryan and Sally Belle Swann Bryan. They moved to Marshall when Betty was a baby, and Marshall remained her home town.
Betty married former Marshall City Attorney and WWII veteran William (Bill) Azro Blalock in 1948 and they had one daughter, Patricia Adrianne Blalock Pamplin of Longview, Texas. Bill preceded her in death in 1961.
She married Robert Allen Norman, WWII veteran and retired Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy, after meeting again at their 40th high school reunion. They were married 12 years until Bob passed away in 1996. They were married on August, 21, the same day as his birthday and the same day she passed away.
She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Marshall, and supported it throughout her life.
Betty was a prize winning, published poet. She placed in a Writer's Digest contest in 1975. She belonged to the Rusk County Poetry Society, and her winning poems were published in several RCPS Yearbook anthologies. She wrote devotionals for the Upper Room periodical and was included in eight publications.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia, and husband, Edd Pamplin of Longview; Sister, Pat Richardson of Abilene; brother, Bill Bryan and sister-in-law, Tish Bryan of Marshall and a number of nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you from the family goes to the staff of Reunion Inn, her sitter, Karen Roberts, and to director Jacque Griffith for their care and unfailing kindness in the last months of Betty's life.
She will be privately interred in the Garden of Prayer at Colonial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be from 5pm-7pm on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Sullivan Funeral Home. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
