Elizabeth Gorin Life Story

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17 ESV
Elizabeth Ann Gorin passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 5th. She is survived by her son, Gregg Gorin, of Marshall. She is also survived by her daughter, Holly Smith and son-in-law, Chris Smith, of College Station-also her grandchildren, Noah Smith, Kylie and Jonas Land, Tabor Smith and Sydney Smith, all of College Station. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Susie, and twenty nieces and nephews, as well as two sisters-in-law. She was beloved by so many!
Proceeding her in death was her husband, Jim Gorin, who passed earlier this year. Also, she had lost her parents, Ed and Eleanor Dunston of Godfrey, IL, as well as three brothers and four sisters.
Elizabeth was born in Alton, IL, and a graduate of Alton High School.
In her own words, she writes this: I was born in Illinois as Elizabeth A Gorin but was called by many nicknames, I didn't know what my name was. One thing I did know when I was six years old was that I would be an artist. The kids in my class would gather around my desk when it was art class. So, I found my purpose early. All through school this talent brought me awards and brought me out of my shell, it made me happy and confident. I never stopped drawing or painting throughout my life. In high school I was on the yearbook staff for 3 years designing and taking photography. I worked for several years for photography studios before going on to college and majoring in art. After college I got a job as a technical illustrator for the military, illustrating Operational Manuals for the F15 and F 16, Helicopters, gun turrets and guns. I illustrated IPBs, parts, wiring diagrams and armament systems. Later I moved to Texas and got a job for a commercial art company. This is when I knew my talent would flourish. I worked on book illustrations, advertisement and logos for many companies. I did design and illustrations for the World Champion Barrel Racer Martha Josey, one of my favorite jobs was for actor Don Johnson when did the movie "The Long Hot Summer, an artist job opened at the local paper, not only did I do all of the advertising art and copy, I also did Illustrations for the editorial department feature stories. They also allowed me to do their editorial cartoons. At the newspaper I did 6 children's books used by advertisers with strip ads. These books were used by hundreds of their papers all over the United States. I started my own advertising agency in the nineties and did very well until everyone owned a computer and thought they could do their own work. When work slowed down, I finally had time to get back to what I loved most, paint and sculpting. With all of the artwork I have accumulated and purchased from local artists. I knew I must open a gallery, and so I did. My greatest inspiration comes from the greatest master of color and light and shadow, God. In all of his creations of people, skies, mountains, fields, lakes, oceans, rivers, and animals he sometimes gives an artist a gift of one special moment in time that an artist must paint. No one can create a pallet of color, beauty light and shadow like our God.
