In Loving Memory of Eddie Joe Richardson Eddie Joe Richardson, a true son of Longview, Texas, and a dedicated pillar of his community, passed away on November 28, 2023 at the age of 76. Born on October 9, 1947, to the late Edward and Mamie Roe Richardson, Eddie grew up in Longview and carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life. Eddie's journey was marked by love, friendship, and a deep commitment to his family. He married the love of his life, Carolyn, on August 29, 1996, and together they built a life full of shared memories and enduring love. Eddie is survived by his cherished wife Carolyn, his daughter Wendi Whitaker, cousins, Mike Richardson, Harry and Penny Roe, and Dennis Wilson. His brother and sister-n-laws, Mike and Dee Smellie, John and Gerrie Spellmann, as well as his nieces Katie Crossland, Avery Spellmann and nephew Erich Spellmann, along with dear friends Johnny and Peggy Vaughn. Eddie's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a deep-rooted connection to his community, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.His roots in Longview were strong, and Eddie dedicated 30 years of his life in service to the City of Longview. Even in retirement, his commitment to public service continued as he worked as a dispatch/jailer at the Gregg County Sheriff's Office for two years. Although he briefly moved to San Antonio to support his wife's pursuit of nursing, his heart belonged to Longview, and he returned a year later. Eddie was a proud 1965 graduate of Longview High School and pursued his passion for Physical Education and US History at East Texas State University, graduating in 1970. His love for sports was evident throughout his life, having played youth sports, worked numerous little league tournaments, and, most notably, dedicated almost four decades to calling games for Lobo Nation. An integral part of the broadcast team on KFRO, Eddie's voice resonated with Lobo fans, capturing the excitement of the games. His camaraderie with fellow broadcasters, including Johnny Vaughn, Brent Taylor, Mike Richardson, "Magic" Matt Morton, and Gene Morris, formed bonds that lasted a lifetime. Eddie's heart bled Green and Gold, and he reveled in every moment supporting Longview Lobo football, even as the coaching format changed in recent years. Eddie's passions extended beyond the football field; he was an avid left-handed golfer, a devoted Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan, and an enthusiast of travel, particularly enjoying visits to various pro baseball parks across the country. His love for the "Nooner" basketball group and regular gatherings at Texas RoadHouse and Pizza King showcased his enduring commitment to friendship and camaraderie. A celebration of Eddie's life will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Welch Funeral Home.
