Dr. Bob J. Herrin

Dr. Bob J. Herrin went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 24, 2024 in Longview, TX. He was born September 22, 1928 in Fletcher, OK to Doy Dallas Herrin and Margaret Ruth Golightly. Bob grew up on a dairy farm in Oklahoma, where he learned the value of hard work. He milked the cows every morning, drove the school bus, and operated the projector for the local movie theater while in high school. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in physics from the University of Oklahoma in Norman and obtained his Doctor of Medicine Degree at The University of Oklahoma Medical School. Dr. Bob Herrin served as a Reserved Commissioned Officer in the United States Army. Dr. Herrin interned at Providence Hospital in Waco, TX, and he completed a surgery residency at Robert B. Green Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He married his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret Ann Gikas, in 1958.
Dr. Herrin and Margaret moved their family to Marshall, TX in 1965, where he practiced surgery for 35 years. Dr. Bob treated every patient with dignity and honor, and he was beloved and respected for his giftedness and sacrificial service to Marshall Memorial Hospital, his patients, and the community. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, and he enjoyed tennis, snow skiing, ice skating, water sports, and spending time on the farm with his family.
Dr. Herrin was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife, Margaret Herrin. He is survived by his two daughters, Sylvia Herrin Snodgrass and husband John, and Sandra "Missy" Herrin Ashley and husband Lannie; six grandchildren, Jonathan (Catherine), Benjamin (Esther), Rebecca, and Stephen Snodgrass, Aiden and Brennen Ashley; step-grandchildren, Patricia Jones, and Chace Ashley, and four great grandchildren, David and Caleb Snodgrass, and Verity and Isaiah Snodgrass. Dr. Bob will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.
