Dovis L. Ashby, Jr., age 79, of Karnack Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 1, 2023.
Dovis (Buddy) was born in Waskom, Texas on February 22, 1944 to Dovis L. (Jiggs) Ashby, Sr and Marie Platt Ashby. After graduating high school from Fair Park in 1962, he went to work for Sanders Plumbing in Shreveport Louisiana. He then continued his education through, Local #141, Plumbers and Pipe Fitting School and then successfully opened his own plumbing company, Ashby's Plumbing, in 1976, in Blanchard, Louisiana. Following the closing of his plumbing company in 1980, he continued on with his successful cattle and hay business, 4A Farms, for 33 great years. Buddy then finished out his employed years at UOP Honeywell, and happily retired in 2003.
Buddy loved traveling with his kids and grandkids, trout fishing, reading , and listening to his Jazz music. He was a loving, loyal, and kind father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and cousin- and although he had a full, beautiful and wonderful life, his passing will leave a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Martha Ashby Davis. Buddy is survived by his two children Dovis L Ashby lll (David) and Rhonda Kay Ashby; his six grandchildren, Michael Ashby (Ashley) , Brandon Ashby (Pamela) , Madelon Ashby (Cody), Sarah Hauser (Jerry), Anna Brown (Garrett) , and Austin Ashby; three great-grandchildren, Boston Cooper Ashby, Rhett Carter Ashby, Hudson Ashby and many step great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Honoring Buddy as pallbearers will be Michael Ashby, Brandon Ashby, Austin Ashby, Taylor Lang, Garrett Brown, Cody Stewart, and Jerry Persilver.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Charles Ashby and Carl Shelton.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Carl Shelton, Barry Kelly, Waskom JOP- John D. Oswalt, Harrison County Deputy Sheriff Josh Hill, Waskom Fire Department, and The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home for their grace and generosity throughout this time.
Visitation will be held at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel located at 100 East Travis Street in Marshall, Texas on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. please use the Travis Street entrance. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 7 at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at at the Ashby Family Cemetery. A gathering and celebration of Buddy's life will follow for family and friends.
