Dorothy Sampson Life Story

Dorothy Mae Sampson, a beloved figure known affectionately as Dorothy by her friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 91. Born on February 15, 1934, in Ashdown, Arkansas, Dorothy's life was marked by her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her dedication to serving others. Dorothy's journey through life was shared with her loving husband of 59 years, Herbert Eugene "Gene" Sampson. Their enduring marriage was a testament to their shared values and commitment to family. Dorothy was a cherished mother to her son, Bobby Sampson, and his wife, Donna. Her role as "Mammaw" to her adored granddaughter, Taylor Sampson, whom she fondly nicknamed "Angel Girl," was one of her greatest joys. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Coleman and his wife Linda, and her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Phillips as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Abraham Oliver and Beulah Victoria Coleman, her son, Taylor Sampson, and her brothers, Bill Coleman, David Coleman and David's wife Annette. A Godly woman through and through, Dorothy was a devout member of Central Baptist Church alongside Gene. There, she taught Sunday School and participated in numerous church functions, touching the lives of many with her kindness and wisdom. In her later years, she found a spiritual home at Immanuel Baptist Church, where she continued to live by her faith. Dorothy's life was one of service and love. Her work history and community involvement were not defined by a career but by her role as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of her life, from attending church to the meticulous care she gave her garden. Dorothy's connection to nature was profound; she found great joy in watching hummingbirds and nurturing her flowers and plants. An avid reader, Dorothy read the Bible with each reading deepening her understanding and faith. Her love for baking was legendary, with her scratch made cookies and candies bringing delight to many during every Christmas holiday season. Dorothy's generosity extended beyond her family and friends. She was a familiar face to those she served through "Meals on Wheels," delivering not just food but also companionship and care to those in need. The impact of Dorothy's life is immeasurable, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her. Yet, her spirit lives on in the memories she created, the wisdom she imparted, and the love she so freely gave. Dorothy Mae Sampson's story is one of unwavering faith, boundless love, and selfless service-a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us all. As we bid farewell to Dorothy, we celebrate a life well-lived, a faith well-kept, and a love that will never fade. Her memory will be cherished forever by those she leaves behind, and her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
