Don McGrede Life Story

Robert Don McGrede, affectionately known as Don among his friends, and Dad or Daddy by his children, passed away at his home in Spring Hill, March 7th, 2025, at the age of 85.

Don was born on May 18th, 1939, to Mr. and Mrs. W.C. McGrede. He was a lifelong resident of Spring Hill and attended both Judson and Spring Hill schools, graduating in 1957.

Don spent his career as a respected machinist and also loved his time as an auctioneer and business owner. After retirement, he dedicated his love and time to his devoted wife of 47 years, Frances. He was a loving man with so much wit and wisdom and always enjoyed making you laugh. He enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends and family, and had a passion for watching western shows, especially John Wayne. He loved cooking shows and has bookshelves filled with hundreds of cookbooks and all the cooking appliances you could ever need. He touched the lives of many and will leave a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to know him.

Don was blessed with a large loving family and will be dearly missed by his children, Cindy Sullivan and husband, Robert, Cheryl McGrede and wife, Cynthia, Monty McGrede and wife, Sallie, Angela Cromwell, Tonya Shrum and husband, Dickey, and brother, Jimmy McGrede and wife Diane. Don and Frances shared 8 grandchildren, Crystal and husband Michael, Laura Sullivan, Betty Messer, Brittany Shrum-Fraser and husband Joshua, Halee Shrum and fiancé' Keegan, Lexi Shrum, Tyler Cale and Derek Oestreich. They also shared 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He will also be dearly missed by his most loved furry companion, who never left his side, his Australian Shepherd, Bree.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. McGrede, his loving wife, Frances Ann McGrede, brother Roy C. McGrede, his beloved daughter, Brenda Morgan, son-in-law Jerry Morgan and their two sons, Shane and Devin, and grandson Tyler Cale.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cammack Family Chapel. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service.

Distance will never dim your light in our life. It will continue to guide us and what you gave each of us will live on in our lives forever.
