Dennis Harold Jones, known affectionately as Dennis to his friends and family, passed away on March 22, 2025, in the loving arms of his wife, in Diana, Texas. Born on January 12, 1946, in Gilmer, Texas, Dennis embodied the virtues of love, humor, and faith throughout his 79 years of life.
A graduate pf Harleton High School, Dennis spent 12 years forging friendships, playing sports and laying the foundation for a future marked by hard work and dedication. He went on to have a distinguished 34-year career at Marathon LeTourneau, where he was respected for his expertise and leadership as an electrical maintenance supervisor. His commitment to his work was second only to his devotion to his faith and family. While working at LeTourneau, Dennis made numerous lifelong friends, many of which he remained in contact with even after retirement.
A family man through and through, Dennis was a loving husband to Sharon McBride Jones. His legacy of love continued with his children, Cindy Hooten and husband, William, Clint Jones and wife, Michelle, and was further enriched by the joy brought by his grandchildren, Chase Jones, Morgan Prescott and husband Matt, Clay Hooten, and Hunter Jones. The family circle expanded with the arrival of his cherished great-grandchildren, Easton Jones, Cohen Prescott, Parker Hooten, Sadie Jones, and Crew Prescott. Dennis also leaves behind his brothers, Ronnie and wife, Sue Jones, Jay and wife, Becky Smith, and sisters-in-law Carolyn Jones and Judi McBride, who will all hold dear the memory of his generous spirit.
Outside of his family, Dennis had two passions in life, serving the Lord and horses. He found great pleasure in riding, showing, training, and shoeing horses-a craft that he approached with the same excellence as every other aspect of his life. Dennis was known far and wide as the man who could find a smooth "gait" in any horse that possessed one and he was renowned for his ability to work colts. He served as President of the East Texas Walking and Racking Horse Club for many years and was part of the glue that has held that group together through the years. Every June, you could count on Dennis, Sharon and Cindy to host their annual cookout and trail ride which drew people from far and wide. Dennis made many friends over the years in the horse industry. He sold horse shoes, gave free advice and was a good friend to his many friends and customers. Many times, you could hear a prayer meeting or Bible lesson coming from the tack room, when his buddies showed up. He loved spending time and helping out his "Horse Buddies". His enthusiasm for life extended to watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports, a pastime that allowed him to share in their triumphs and offer encouragement during challenges. He spent his last evening on this earth watching his grandson coach his great grandson in baseball, a sport he grew to love over the years. This was a good thing, since all 4 grandkids played ball in college. Dennis and Sharon rarely missed a game any of their kids or grandkids played in.
Those who knew Dennis would describe him as a horseman of great humor and an even greater man of faith. He navigated life's ups and downs with a smile, often sharing laughter and wisdom with those around him. He was known for always having a quick wit and funny sense of humor. His faith was a large part of who he was, which was shown in his actions and his relationships with others. A quote that Dennis held dear and exemplified in his daily life comes from the great Billy Graham: " My home is in heaven. I'm just traveling through this world." Dennis lived by these words, generously giving of his time, talents, and love to everyone he encountered. He taught Sunday School and Training Union classes at Morton Baptist Church since he was in his 20's. He will be missed by the group of ladies in his Sunday morning class very much. His chair there will be hard to fill.
Family and friends will gather for a time of visitation on Thursday, March 27, 2005 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the garden court of the Cammack Family Funeral Home. A Life Celebration will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Morton Baptist Church.
Dennis's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends. He set an example of how to live a full and meaningful life, and though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created will be treasured forever. If you were around Dennis much, you have heard his favorite saying, "I'm too blessed to be Stressed!" He shared this sentiment with most of the people he came in contact with.
As we bid farewell to Dennis Harold Jones, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life that touched so many and will continue to do so for generations to come. His spirit, characterized by the values he cherished, will remain a guiding light for his loved ones, and his story will be recounted with fondness and admiration for years to come.
