Darrell Lynn Burkhart

Darrell Lynn Burkhart, 64, of Longview, Texas was called home to the Lord on Friday, April 9, 2021, in Dallas, Texas.

Darrell Burkhart was born to Gillis Irl Burkhart and Thelma Muriel Gibson on Friday, November 2, 1956, in Amarillo, Texas. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and went on to graduate from Tyler Junior College with a criminal justice degree. Once he graduated, he worked as a police officer for Tyler for a year, and went on to join the Air Force where he continued in law enforcement in the military including working as a dog handler and a combat veteran.

Darrell was a one of a kind Texan through and through and always smelled like mon bland legend cologne and was an absolute joy to be around. Even on his bad days, he was always positive, always smiling bright and did whatever he could to make everyone around him smile. His sense of humor could make a small crowd sound like a large crowd, because you just couldn't stop laughing. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching all sports - baseball, football, golf, but his favorite was baseball (The Astros) of course, and absolutely loved the Longhorns. He was like a human book when it came to any type of sports stats; you could ask him about any player, and he would tell you anything you wanted to know. He enjoyed watching romantic comedies, the travel antique channel, gardening and wanted all types of flowers and plants in his wife, Donna’s and his yard. He was a very simple man when it came to food. He just wanted his wife to fix roast beef, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, anything chocolate, of course, or his absolute favorite pound cake. He was a Christian man and a member of Grace Creek Church. He loved the Lord and always shared that with his family and the importance of it. Darrell was a one of a kind man that was cherished and loved while with us all and will be deeply missed until we see him again one day.

Darrell was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gillis and Thelma Burkhart; and sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Ben Frizzle.

Darrell is survived by loving wife, Donna Burkhart; and children, Justin Ford, Bethany Burkhart, Mari Tisdale, and Ashley Phillips as well as many grandchildren.

A Life Celebration service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 2:00 P.M at The Cammack Family Welch Funeral Home in Longview. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service.
