Connie Hunt Life Story

Connie Jean Hodges Hunt passed away peacefully on Saturday June 14, 2025, in Marshall, Texas. Born on January 18, 1958, to James Wallace Hodges and Stella (Cookie) Barker Hodges.

Connie attended Daingerfield-Lone Star High School with the class of 1977 and kept in touch with a few classmates. Her free spirit eventually took her to Louisiana where she found her final true love Howard Hunt and remained there for more than 20years. Connie always wanted to go back home to northeast Texas, and she did several years ago.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard Hunt, he provided her with years of happiness and love. Her mother, Stella Barker Hodges who was a constant source of her creativity, and her brother, Jim (Turkey)Hodges, who would argue with her sometimes just to set her off and give him a good laugh.

Connie’s ability to visualize and create beautiful things was a true gift from God, and our mom. She called mom one morning and asked her to help move her kitchen wall before her husband got home from work; they did, and it was beautiful. Once she took a chainsaw to a wall because she wanted a sliding glass backdoor with a brick patio, again completed before the end of the day.

Her flair for design and decoration was evident in every corner of her home, and her skills as a seamstress were nothing short of amazing.

Connie's life was a tapestry woven with the joys of family and the simple pleasures of life. She will always be remembered lovingly by her sister, Kathy Hodges Owens, and husband, Valton Owens, who stuck by her through all the highs and lows no matter what.

Her legacy continues through her son, James Michael Dorough, and her cherished grandchildren, Shelby Corinne Dorough and James Wyatt Dorough, all of Walker, La. Connie’s chest was always a bit higher and her smile a bit bigger when she talked about them. They brought immense joy and pride to her life.

Connie's nieces and nephews, Valton Owens III, Mandie Owens, Matthew Hodges, and Josh Hodges, will forever hold dear memories of Aunt Connie.

Her four-legged companions, Marley and Avery, were forever by her side, her lap, her shoulder, back of the couch, in the car, even the hospital room, it didn’t matter, they were her ever-present sources of comfort, joy, and aggravations, they will miss her gentle touch and loving presence.

Her absence is felt deeply by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her kindness and grace, but Connie was blessed to have the love and support of her friends and extended family.

We say farewell and celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a woman whose impact will be felt for generations to come. Pallbearers will be James Dorough, Wyatt Dorough, Matthew Hodges, Joshua Hodges, Louis Soileau and Matt Sirmans.
