Charlotte Elaine Dorsey McAfee, 68, passed into the arms of her Lord on Sept. 14, 2020, in Austin, Texas, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with endometrial cancer. She was born on March 20, 1952, in Longview, Texas, to Weldon Lee “Buck” and Eula Mae Freeman Dorsey. She grew up in Chalk Hill and graduated from Tatum High School in 1970.
Charlotte was a loving caregiver, working with young children in the nursery at Oakland Heights Baptist Church for more than 20 years as well as serving the needs of the elderly through several caretaker jobs at night and on the weekends. She enjoyed cooking, gardening (especially her flowers), playing games and spending time with her family and many friends. She was a fun-loving and generous grandmother who adored her three grandchildren.
Work was very important to Charlotte. She enjoyed working and worked up until the week she went on hospice care. She was employed in the business office at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Medical Center for the past 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Lee Dorsey. Survivors include daughter, Dr. Kathy McAfee Eubanks and husband, Cary, of Austin; grandchildren, Buck Weldon Eubanks, Bain William Eubanks, and Finley Elaine Eubanks; sister-in-law, Sharman Dorsey of Longview; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family thanks the many friends and relatives who provided meals, rides, visits, flowers, gifts and prayers during Charlotte’s battle with cancer. Special thanks to Texas Oncology (Longview), Heritage Hospice (Longview) and Compassus Hospice (Austin).
Memorials may be made to Mercy Project (mercyproject.net) or a favorite charity.
