Charles Vernon Oney Jr., known as "Bubba" to his friends and family, was a beacon of joy and strength in the lives of those who knew him. Born on January 11, 1963, in Marshall, Texas, Bubba was a man who lived his life with unwavering faith and boundless love. On October 20, 2025, at the age of 62, he was called home to the Lord while in Harleton, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, service, and devotion. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Sally Oney, his father Charles Vernon Oney Sr., and his sister Francis Akins, and a multitude of aunts uncles and cousins. Bubba's memory will continue to be cherished by his family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife Samantha, his proud children Chesley Oney, Sandra Jacobs and her husband Colton, Dillon Ridgeway with his wife Destiny, and Dalton Ridgeway. His grandchildren Ryder, Kayden, Brantley, Averie, Blaire, and Haigen were the light of his life, and he leaves behind many loved cousins and friends who will fondly remember his presence in their lives.
After graduating from Harleton High School, Bubba dedicated 40 years of his life as a steadfast lineman. His career was marked not only by his commitment to his work but also by the countless friendships he forged and communities he served. A man of faith, Bubba's Christian values were evident in his everyday actions and the kindness he showed to all. Bubba's interests were a reflection of his zest for life. He found joy in riding side by sides, the thrill of playing in the mud. Fishing and hunting provided him with moments of tranquility and communion with nature, while evenings spent playing dominoes and cards with friends were filled with laughter and many good memories. Above all, Bubba cherished the time spent with his family and friends, understanding that these moments were the true treasures of life.
Described by those who knew him as loving, courageous, and funny, Bubba's humor and warmth could light up any room. His courage, not just in the face of life's challenges but also in how he lived boldly and authentically, inspired everyone around him. His love was a guiding force that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
As we reflect on Bubba's life, we are reminded of the scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). He ran the race set before him with perseverance and now rests in the eternal love and peace of our Savior. Bubba's life was a testament to the joy that comes from living with purpose and passion, and his memory will be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.We take peace in the knowledge that Bubba is now in the company of angels, reunited with his parents and sister in the presence of our Heavenly Father. As we say our earthly goodbyes, we do so with the hope of one day seeing his bright smile again in the glory of Heaven.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at The Cammack Family - Marshall from 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M.
A Life Celebration funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at The Cammack Family - Marshall with Craig Evers officiating. Interment will follow at Piney Cemetery in Harleton with Johnny Oney, Clay Oney, Cevin Oney, Jay King, Corey Brock and Preston Smith serving as pallbearers.
