With a heart full of cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Carroll Glenn Fomby, lovingly known as Carroll, on November 9, 2024. Born on September 22, 1950, in Gilmer, Texas, Carroll's life was a testament to the joy and love he brought to every person he met. He left this world in White Oak, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the warmth of his family and friends.
Carroll's early years were spent in the scenic beauty of East Texas where he graduated from Longview High School in 1970. His passion for photography led him to Kilgore College, where he honed his craft and captured the world through his lens. Carroll's professional journey was marked by dedication and hard work; for over a decade, he served as a maintenance supervisor at MC Properties, and prior to that, he owned a successful lawn care company for fifteen years. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family and his faith.
Family was the cornerstone of Carroll's life. He is survived by his beloved daughter Cara Fomby, and her son Archer Freeman, who filled his days with laughter and pride. His daughter Caitlin and her husband Cheyne Mason, along with their sons Caiden Beal and Abel Mason, brought immense joy to his life. Carroll's sister, Gloria, and her husband Richard Whitehead, shared a bond of sibling love and camaraderie that remained unbroken through the years. His dear girlfriend, Lenise Shew, brought happiness and companionship to his later years. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Joyce Fomby, his brothers Joe Neal Fomby and Steve Fomby, and his grandparents Elton and Florence Hagler and A.B.C. and Maude Fomby. His memory will also be treasured by his nieces, nephews, and countless individuals who became family through love and friendship.
Beyond his professional and family life, Carroll was an avid outdoorsman. His interests took him on adventures through photography, hiking, and hunting. He found solace and inspiration in restoring cast iron, a craft that spoke to his appreciation for history and restoration. Carroll's zest for life was evident in his enthusiasm for dancing and teaching dance lessons, an activity that brought him and others great joy.
A man of deep faith, Carroll dedicated time to studying his Bible and teaching others about Jesus. His belief in the power of faith and the importance of community was a guiding force throughout his life. He spent countless hours with his three grandsons, coaching soccer and playing ball, instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and love.
Carroll's life was a dance to the music of time, and he moved through it with grace and passion. As the well-known quote by Henry David Thoreau goes, "Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each." This philosophy was embodied in Carroll's approach to life, always embracing the present moment with gratitude and wonder.
