Carl Groen Life Story

Carl Henry Groen passed away on January 19, 2026, in San Marcos, Texas, at the age of 89. Born on April 8, 1936, in Danville, Illinois, Carl lived a life marked by dedication to his family, education, and profession. Carl pursued higher education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1960. His time at UT was not only academically formative but also personally significant-it was there that he met Roslyn Parrish, who would become his beloved wife. Carl and Roslyn shared 58 years of marriage together before her passing. Carl's professional career in the oil industry spanned decades and took him and his family to numerous cities across the United States, and even overseas to West Africa. Working for major oil companies, Carl built not only a successful career but also friendships with colleagues from around the world. His work reflected both technical expertise and unparalleled dedication. Despite his many travels, Carl found his greatest joy in retirement at Shadowood Lake in Marshall, Texas. There, he was surrounded by members of the Parrish clan-his wife's extended family-and enjoyed the peace and companionship that came with being close to loved ones. Carl is lovingly remembered by his daughter Kelly Groen Wetmore and son D. Todd Groen; his son-in-law Bradley S. Wetmore and daughter-in-law Paige R. Groen; and his cherished grandchildren Jackson Wetmore, Haley Wetmore, Garrett Groen, and Paysse Groen. He was preceded in death by his wife Roslyn P. Groen; his parents Donald M. Groen and Louise F. Groen; and his brother Don Lowell "Duke" Groen. Carl's legacy lives on through the family he nurtured and the life he built with quiet strength and love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
