Brenda Davis Life Story

Brenda Sue Davis, age 70, most commonly known as "Nanny," passed away peacefully at her home in Kilgore, TX on August 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and generosity that will forever be cherished by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life funeral service for Brenda will be held at 2 PM Friday, September 6th, 2024 at the Church at Lake Cherokee officiated by Bill Blanks. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service.
A devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Brenda's heart was full of boundless love for her family, which included her four beloved children, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit also touched the lives of countless extended grandchildren from her beloved Meadowbrook Preschool, where she was a guiding light for so many young hearts.
Brenda was born January 24, 1954 to Bonnie Faye (Reynolds) and Hoey Calhoun at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana, Ar. She was one of seven children, Melba Mueller (John), Carolyn Cunningham, Marilyn Rouse, Dennis Calhoun, Kenneth Calhoun, and Tena Bone (Carl). Brenda found joy in music, dancing, and singing alongside her family, moments that brought her immense happiness and strengthened the bond she shared with her siblings. These cherished memories of togetherness were a testament to the love that defined her life.
Brenda was not just a loving matriarch but also a successful entrepreneur and business owner, whose passion for her work was matched only by her love for her family. Her entrepreneurial spirit was a testament to her strength, determination, and unwavering commitment to providing for her loved ones.
An avid thrift shopper, Brenda had a special fondness for stuffed animals and dolls that others might have overlooked. She saw beauty and potential in what some might call "ugly," finding joy in giving these treasures a new home. Her unique ability to see the good in everything and everyone was a hallmark of her character.
Brenda had a deep love for travel, with Branson, Missouri, holding a special place in her heart along with London where she enjoyed a once in a lifetime trip with her sister, Tena. She cherished the summers spent at Lake of the Pines, where she found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was tinkering outside, tending to her plants, or maintaining her yard, Brenda's love for the outdoors was evident in everything she did.
A lover of movies, Brenda's favorite was Steel Magnolias, a film that echoed her own resilience and strength. Her favorite saying, "I love you more," was a phrase she often shared with her loved ones, a reflection of the immense love she carried in her heart.
Brenda's life was blessed with the enduring love of her late husband, Gary Davis, whose memory she cherished deeply. Their bond was the foundation of the loving family they built together, and his presence remained a guiding force in her life. In her later years, Brenda was further comforted by the devoted care of her beloved significant other, Gary Thompson, who stood by her side with unwavering support until her last breath.
Brenda was an influential presence in the lives of many, always encouraging others to be the best versions of themselves. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, as she consistently put the needs of others before her own. Even in her final days, Brenda's sassy spirit and sharp wit shone brightly, reminding those around her of the vibrant woman she was.
Brenda leaves behind her four children, Michelle Gregg (Shane) of Kilgore, Stacy Keifer (Noah) of Gladewater, Tracy Green (Brian Sr) of White Oak, Michael Leverett (Renee) of Kilgore and bonus child, James Leverett (Brandi) of Stevenson, Washington.
