Services for Bobbie Jean Betts will be held at 2:00 Saturday, February 12, 2022 (on her wedding anniversary), at Welch’s Funeral Home, Longview, TX. Visitation will be at 1:00 before services. Brother Craig Evers will be leading the services for Bobbie. She was a woman of faith and loved the Lord.
Bobbie was born to Everett and Nobie Gunby on September 20, 1933 in Sturgis, Mississippi. She had two sisters and two brothers who preceded her in death. She married James Edward Betts on February 12, 1948. They were married for 50 years until James passed away on July 21, 1998.
Bobbie was a simple woman. She enjoyed reading before her vision made that impossible. Most days you could find her outdoors working in the yard, their garden, hanging out clothes, feeding the chickens (killing snakes) or just sitting on the porch. She loved animals and children and always had a dog. Bobbie loved her family and cherished any time spent with them. In her 80’s she would often play basketball with her great grandson Junior or help him with his school lessons. She was a great cook and it was always a treat to share a meal with her, especially her chicken and dressing. Bobbie enjoyed playing card games and 42. She looked forward to her monthly “Joy” group at Jay Valley Baptist Church where she was a member and attended faithfully. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of loving the lord and doing his will. She enjoyed visiting with her friends, especially her dear friend Virginia Brooks and Sammy Curtis. The last couple of years her body was crippled by blindness and Alzheimer's. She continued to give it her best until the end.
She is survived by her two daughters: Jeannie Speer and her husband George of Huntsville, Texas; Jamie Powell and her husband David of Longview, Texas.
She has 5 grandchildren: Brandon Curtis, Brooke Loyd, Cassie Vowell, Vic Powell and JD Powell.
She has 8 great grandchildren: Ethan Loyd, Brandon Curtis JR, Tyler Loyd, Ava Powell, Lydia Powell, Emery Loyd, Deakin Powell and Charlie Vowell.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Brandon, Vic, JD, Ethan, Junior and Tyler.
The family would like to thank Prime Care Hospice, especially Mary Ann, Elsie and Leslie for their help the past couple of months. The family asks in lieu of flowers, please send donations to East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance or Jay Valley Baptist Church
