Billy Joe Coleman, known affectionately as Papa, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, in Longview, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on October 9, 1936, in Ashdown, Arkansas to Abraham Oliver and Beulah Victoria Coleman, Bill was a man of great integrity, warmth, and dedication, whose legacy will live on through his loving family and the many lives he touched. Bill's life was one marked by devotion to his family and his work. A pillar of strength, he is survived by his three children, Steven Ray Coleman, Russell Joe Coleman, and JoAnn Coleman Miller; his step-daughter, Audrey Futrell; his cherished grandchildren, Marty Page, Dylan Joe Coleman, and Tyler Lee Miller; and several adored great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Charles Kenneth Coleman; a sister, Dorothy Sampson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who will miss him deeply. Bill's life was prefigured by the loss of his parents, Abraham Oliver and Beulah Victoria Coleman, and a brother, David Coleman. A proud alumnus of Ashdown High School and Texarkana Junior College, Bill's commitment to excellence was evident early on. His career spanned many years as Plant Superintendent for Marshall Mineral, where his leadership, expertise, and work ethic were highly valued. Bill's professional dedication was only matched by his commitment to his community, where he was a respected and active member. Bill's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a long-time attendee of Central Baptist Church before joining the congregation of Fairview Baptist Church. His unwavering faith and the fellowship he found in his church communities provided great comfort and joy throughout his life. Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Bill's interests and hobbies reflected his love for life and his desire to connect with others. His presence at family gatherings, church events, and community functions was always met with a warm smile and an eagerness to lend a helping hand. As we remember Bill, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with love, hard work, and unwavering faith. His story is not one of sorrow but of joy and gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with him. Bill's memory will be treasured forever in the hearts of those who knew him. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in honoring the life and legacy of Bill Coleman, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose journey on earth has come to a close but whose spirit will continue to inspire us all.
