Be the first to offer your condolences on Betty's Tribute Wall
Betty Jo Higgins, affectionately known to all as Betty, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, in Marshall, Texas, at the venerable age of 88. Born on October 24, 1936, in Emerson, Arkansas, to proud parents Loy and Effie Bridwell, Betty's life was marked by a commitment to family, faith, and community that left an indelible impact on those fortunate enough to know her. Betty's early life in Emerson laid the foundation for her remarkable journey. As Valedictorian of Emerson High School, she demonstrated an early dedication to excellence that would characterize her entire life. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to attend trade schools, where she honed skills that would serve her well in her professional life. Betty spent many years working as a secretary for Petroleum Information in the oil and gas industry, where her strong work ethic and charming personality made her a respected figure among her colleagues. The loss of her beloved husband, Thomas Edward Higgins, was felt deeply by Betty, yet she remained the steadfast matriarch of her family. She is survived by her loving son, Timothy Higgins and his wife, Lindsey; her beloved daughter, Lori Miller and her husband, Robert; her cherished grandchildren, Austin Miller and his wife, Jessica, and Paige Miller; and her adored great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Miller and Oliver Harris Miller. Betty also leaves behind her dear niece, Pam Carter and her husband, Johnny; her nephew, Jeff Creasy and his wife, Cheryl; and numerous other family members who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Eddie Ruth Creasy; and her brother-in-law, Sam Creasy. A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She loved the Lord with all her heart and found great solace and joy in her faith. Her spiritual life was a testament to her belief in kindness, compassion, and service to others. Betty's love extended to her furry companions, as she was known for her heartfelt dedication to her dogs, often cooking special meals for them. Her interests were diverse and pursued with fervor. An avid reader and art lover, Betty embraced the beauty of the world around her with open arms. However, her true passion lay in the time she spent with her grandchildren. She never missed a school program or event, always there to support and celebrate their achievements. Described by those who knew her as a "Steel Magnolia," Betty exuded strength and fearlessness while maintaining her Southern charm. She was the epitome of a "bless your heart" kind of person. Her ability to face life's challenges with grace and determination was an inspiration to all. Betty's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the unwavering support of her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will continue to be nurtured by the love and values she instilled in them. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. Betty Jo Higgins will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. In honor of Betty's memory, let us hold our loved ones a little closer, find joy in the simple pleasures of life, and carry on her legacy of unwavering love and resilience. As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on so many, and we are grateful for the time we had with our beloved Betty.
