Albert Pogue Life Story

Albert Lewis Pogue, known affectionately as Al, was a beacon of joy and resilience throughout his 97 years of life. Born on April 4, 1927, in Cedar Hill, Texas, to a large family of 8 boys and 3 girls, Al left this world peacefully on April 9, 2024, in Longview, Texas. His was a life well-lived, full of the pleasures and cherished memories of family and friends.

At the age of 18, Al enlisted in the US Navy. Following the end of World War II, Al returned to Dallas where he worked various jobs before enrolling in Draughon's Business School. After completing an Associates degree in Accounting, he embarked on a career that would span over three decades. Al dedicated 35 years to Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., where his work ethic, loyalty, and amicable nature made him not only a valued employee but also a treasured friend to his colleagues.

Al had a strong spiritual faith and was a long time member of the Pine Tree Church of Christ in Longview. He had a real passion to help others through the church benevolence program.

Throughout his life, Al found joy in many hobbies. He loved fishing, especially along the Texas Gulf Coast. He also loved playing Dominos and Texas 42. His love for dominos was no secret, as he spent many an afternoon with friends around a table at the church building. Gardening was another of Al's passions, his hands nurturing the soil as he cultivated both flowers and vegetables, sharing the bounty of his harvest with neighbors and loved ones.

Al would often tell you that he was happiest at home in Longview. However, he had a sense for adventure and loved the times he was able to travel to foreign destinations.

Al's life was also defined by love and family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Lillian Pogue, and a loving father to his sons, Alan Pogue, who preceded him in death, and Perry Pogue. He is survived by 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and his guidance and wisdom have left an indelible mark on their hearts.

In his later years, Al's presence became a source of comfort and strength to his community and family. He was fortunate to have two wonderful Care-takers that became great friends. He taught both how to play Dominos and when he was finally beaten by them, he declared he must be a good teacher.

Albert Lewis Pogue's legacy is one of kindness, hard work, and the joy of life's simple pleasures. As we bid farewell to Al, we hold tight to the memories he has left behind, knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
