Sammye Turner Life Story

Sammye Jean Beasley Turner of Longview, whom God sent to earth on March 30, 1933, and received back into his presence on June 5, 2019. A Life Celebration will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Welch Funeral Home with Brother Norman Crisp officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation Friday evening, June 14, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Garden Court of Welch Funeral Home.
Sammye graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from East Texas Baptist College and her Master’s Degree from East Texas State University. Her first job which she cherished, was at Lone Star Steel where she was an executive assistant. Lone Star Steel is also where she met her beloved husband, Jim. She spent several years teaching first grade at Lone Star Elementary. In 1992, she began her career in Real Estate with her favorite partner and adored husband. Turner Real Estate was an active and successful business for many years in Morris, Cass and surrounding counties. Sammye held a Texas Real Estate Broker’s license, and she was the recipient of the prestigious award, Broker of the Year.
Sammye was always active in the community. She was passionate about politics and a proud member of the Republican Party. She often wrote letters and made calls to elected officials and encouraged others to do so.
Sammye had a zest for life and loved her family and friends. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and a true movie buff. She and Jim shared their love for movies and regularly went to the theatre together. She adored the time where she gathered with her friends to watch a movie or movies together. Her last evenings were spent with close friends, doing what she loved.
Sammye was immersed in the Christian community. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Longview. She held the position of Discussion Leader with the Bible Study Fellowship for eighteen years. Her faith and love for the Lord was always at the forefront of her life. She was a devout Christian and lived her life to serve the Lord. Sammye fulfilled a life-long dream by traveling to Israel where she followed the footsteps of Jesus. She journeyed through the Holy Land focusing on the life and times of Jesus where she experienced, Jerusalem, the Jordan River, Sea of Galilee and others. This trip proved to be a trip of a lifetime as she was given the opportunity to be baptized in the Jordan River.
Sammye was a beautiful person and loved by many. The organizations for which she was a member included Women’s Forum, PEO, and Texas Shakespeare Festival Guild. We will continue to celebrate her life by keeping the many memories alive.
Sammye was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Turner, Parents, Russell (Sam) and Grace Beasley and brother, Rodney Beasley.
She is survived by her sons, Artie Turner and wife, Robin; Tommy Turner and Kenton Turner; grandchildren, Clark Turner and wife, Krystyl and Brooke Turner; great-grandchildren, Clark Thomas, Coleman and Caleb Turner; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Jerald Meggs; brother and sister-in-law, John and Janice Beasley; sister-in-law, Martha Beasley and several nieces, nephews plus many friends and acquaintances.
