Lura Dell (Hunter) Harris, was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on June 10, 1919, to Judge and Mrs. Clarence W. Hunter and died Friday January 11th, 2019 in Longview, Texas.
She was co-valedictorian of her high school graduating class, excelling in business arts. After her husband became chronically ill she was employed as a secretary/stenographer, eventually retiring in 1979 from Lone Star Steel Company.
Upon retirement, Mrs. Harris enjoyed traveling to various areas of our country, including Washington, D.C., New England, New York, Los Angeles, the far Northwest, and Hawaii. Family, music and crossword puzzles filled her leisure time. She was a Christian and served the Lord in varying capacities throughout her adult lifetime.
Mrs. Harris was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Harris; their son, Steve; son-in-law, Bill Stauts; grandson, David Stauts; and sister, Carol (Hunter) Dolan
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Harris) Stauts; grandchildren; Philip A. Stauts, and Melanie (Stauts) Pigg, her husband, Alan and their children, Madeline and Austin; and a sister, Doris (Hunter) Ferguson. Mrs. Harris also survived by her daughter-in-law, Roseanne (Colletti) Harris, and her granddaughter, Victoria Harris.
A Life Celebration for Mrs. Harris will be held in the Chapel of Welch Funeral Home Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Rick Webb officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service.
Her family extends their thanks to personnel at The Harbor/Buckner Westminster Place for their tender and loving care as well as to those of Heart'sWay Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Buckner Westminster Place, 2201 Horseshoe Lane, Longview, Texas 75605.
