John Author McMillan
April 12, 1948 ~ April 21, 2019 (age 71) 71 Years Old
7 Flowers or Condolences have been shared with support of John's family - View on Tribute Wall
John Arthur McMillan age 71 of Longview unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, April 21 in Longview. He was born on April 12, 1948 in Redfield, Arkansas to Ethel Jennings McMillan and William McMillan. John made his way to Texas where his family settled in Gregg County. He attended school and graduated from White Oak High School in 1966
While working at the original Longview Whataburger location he met his bride to be Martha Jean Thompson of Pitkin, Louisiana. On February 11, 1968 they began a wonderful union of 51 years that would produce three children. John, Michelle, and David.
John worked much of his career in the manufacturing and production industry. He was employed at Lebus, Stroh Can Plan, and Paramount Packaging, eventually transitioning to the Bemis Milprint Longview location where he would retire in 2012.
He enjoyed many things in his life but his Grandchildren and Texas Hold’em were both high on list. He was an active part of his children's, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. He would slip away to play Texas Hold’em about once a month but not before his yard work was done. Mowing, trimming trees and bushes is work to most people but for John it was relaxing. He also enjoyed being outside with nature and walked just about every day. His sense of adventure never dimmed, going on hikes in woods and enjoying the great outdoors. He was competitive on the basketball court and on the pool table. Some people even called him a Pool Shark. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, that touched and shaped the life of those he loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Martha Jean McMillan, three children John James McMillan and wife Penny, Michelle Taft and husband Stephen and David McMillan and wife Andrea, grandchildren; Evan McMillan and wife Katie, Eric McMillan and wife Cortnee, Nic Coynor and wife Lindsey, Sarah Blank and husband Bryan, Donavan McMillan, Joshua Thomas, Nathan Taft, Paisley McMillan, Emily Taft, Piper McMillan, great-grandchildren; Skylar Karva, Ryder McMillan and Zoey McMillan.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Online condolences may be left at cammackfamily.com.
