Jean Reeves Life Story
Gloria Jean Reeves, 78, went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 10th, 2019. She was born on December 27th, 1940, in Jacksonville, Texas to Sam and Lucille Childs. She married the love of her life, Charles Reeves, on August 10th, 1957. Jean and Charles moved to New York for a brief period but quickly realized Texas was where they wanted to make their home.
Jean worked in the banking industry as Vice President Trust Officer in Alice, Texas before coming back home to East Texas. Her last position was with Texas Bank and Trust where she held the position of Vice President within the Trust Department.
She was an active member of First Christian Church. Jean had made many dear friends in her lifetime and cherished all of her time spent with every single one of them.
Jean has devoted hours of personal time to the Longview community through her memberships in the United Way, Women’s Forum, PROMISE Guild and Good Shepard Estate Planning Council. She served as a board member for the American Heart Association, and she was the co-chair for the Heart Ball and Gold Rush charity events.
Although Jean loved volunteering in her community, her greatest love and most valued accomplishments were her sons and grandsons. There was not a more devoted mother or grandmother than Jean. She was affectionately known as “Jean Jean” by those who loved her most. She was a true matriarch of the Reeves family, and she will be deeply missed.
Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth White and her brother-in-law, Ervin White.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Reeves; her sons, Steve (wife, Laura); Sam (wife, Sharon), and Scott (wife, Jill); her grandchildren, Chase, Spencer, Ryan, Nicholas, Kyle, Keely and Shaun; her brother-in-law, Ike Reeves (wife, Christine); her sister-in-law, Melba Reeves; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation Thursday, June 13, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Parlor of Welch Funeral Home
A Life Celebration funeral service will be held Friday, June 14th, 2019, at 1:00 p.m at First Christian Church with Bro. Bobby Moore officiating.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family request with gratitude that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
