Texas lost one of its sweethearts when Heaven gained one of the best.
Jean Kane, 88, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018, at a family home in Bulverde, Texas. She was the only girl born to Carl and Annie May Harvey on December 15, 1929, in Smackover, Arkansas. She married Howard Glen Kane in 1947 and was widowed in 1986.
For 32 years, she was known and loved as Dr. E.O. Watkins’ nurse. She will be remembered for her kind care and sweet personality while serving her patients in Longview. She was a member of Greggton First Baptist Church since a small child and had volunteered in the prayer and hospitality ministry, as well as served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Jean enjoyed playing golf and bowling, earning multiple trophies and awards with her talents. After the death of her husband, she was able to travel extensively with her beloved friends. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family were her most cherished treasures. The legacy of her life was her faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ, never ceasing to believe that He was the answer to all the brokenness in this world.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Glen; and her brothers, Carl “Junior” Harvey, John Harvey, James Harvey, and Charles Harvey. Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Glen E. “Butch” Kane, H. Dale Kane (Debra), and Kristi Kane George (James); her grandchildren, Russell “Rusty” Kane, Shannon Kane-Reinhardt (Jim), Landon Kane (Kelly), Chelsea Lietz (Skip), and Matthew Brewer (Brittany); and her great grandchildren, Dillon, Dalton, Benjamin, Julia, Harper, Hudson, Kherington, Hadley, Brynn, Cayden, Blakely, and Wyatt. She was blessed with one great, great, grandson, Charles Glen.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 10:00 am at Welch Funeral Home Chapel, 4619 Judson Road, Longview, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greggton First Baptist Church, Longview, Texas.
