A Life Celebration for James W. Cook, 86, of Elmo, Texas are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2018, at Welch Funeral Home, Longview, Texas with Stacy Garrett officiating. The family will have a time of visitation from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the funeral home.
James went to be with the Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 7, 2018, in Longview. James Wright Cook was born June 5, 1932, in Linden, Texas to James and Susie Cook. He lived in Linden until he joined the United States Air Force in 1951 where he served as an air policeman until 1959 with two honorable discharges at Hunter Air Force Base in Georgia. James married Dora Jeannette November 11, 1953, in Georgia. They moved to Texas in 1960. James worked as a freight delivery driver for many years until his retirement. After retirement, he went to work for Terrell State Hospital also retiring after 10 years. He was a devoted farmer and loved being outside. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Jeannette Cook; father, James Fletcher Cook; mother Susie Ann Cook; sisters, Bessie Pearl Surratt and Minnie Merle Mitchell; brother, JT Cook.
He is survived by son, Barry Cook of Elmo, Texas; daughter, Kim Bryant and husband, Billy of Tatum, Texas; sister, Mildred Marie McDuffie of Linden, Texas; brothers, Glen Taylor Cook and Donald Cook both of Marietta, Texas; eight grandchildren , Shandra Scott and husband, Chad of Kaufman, Texas; Darby Hunter and husband, Jay of Mabank, Texas; Cheyenne Cook and wife, Charlene of Elmo, Texas; Erin Berley of Greenville, Texas; Courtney Severn and husband, Stephen of Liberty City, Texas; William Bryant of Longview; Amanda Bryant of Tatum; and Maggie Dickerson and husband, Blake of Longview; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; and other family members and friends.
