Dick Tracy Sr., 78, longtime resident of Longview, Texas passed away Tuesday morning, November 6, 2018. A Life Celebration for will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 o'clock in the morning in the sanctuary of Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall, Texas. The family will receive friends for a luncheon, immediately following the service. A visitation will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 in the Garden Court of Welch Funeral Home from 5:00 o'clock to 7:00 o'clock in the evening. Dick Tracy was born June 13, 1940 in Topeka, Kansas to Frank and Mary Tracy. He was one of fourteen children: Rosetta Lockler, Avis Bates, Fay Ann Richardson, Marylin StPierre, Lulu Marie Tracy, Doris Emma Bolding, Thomas Frank Tracy, Karen Sue Smith, Harry Tracy, Helen Jo Waller, Jacqueline Kay Elzo, Bobbye Geraldine Savage, and Danny Ray Tracy. In 1959 Dick married Peggy Tillery in Muskogee, Oklahoma. For nearly 33 years Dick Tracy kept busy by working as a locomotive engineer out of Longview, Texas. Dick hired on as a locomotive engineer in September 1973. Dick said his favorite thing about working for the railroad “was everything and nothing all at once” meaning it was just a good fit for him. He especially loved running trains from Longview to Dallas and Fort Worth. He appreciated the camaraderie and fellowship of the people he met while working for the railroad. Dick retired from the Union Pacific Railroad on January 1, 2006. Prior to applying for the railroad Dick worked as a newspaper pressman. After retirement Dick filled his time with church activities, maintaining his house, yard, and his monthly railroad meetings. He especially enjoyed tending to his garden. Dick also enjoyed spending time with his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His parents Frank and Mary Tracy, his brothers Harry and Tom Tracy as well as many sisters, precede him in death. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Tracy; his daughter, Celeste Jenkins and husband, Charles of Longview; his son, Dick Tracy Jr. and his wife, Sabra of Hallsville; grandchildren, Tony Jenkins and wife Hailey of Hallsville, Mandy Jenkins of Longview, Jared Tracy of Dallas, Ashley Fritz of Hallsville, and Alisa Fritz of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Lauren Carpenter, Aiden and Kaylen Bruce, and Kyleigh and Gracelyn Jenkins. Dick was a devoted husband, a loving father, and grandfather, caring brother and cherished friend. Dick will be greatly missed by those left behind, but they rest in knowing that this period of separation is only temporary.
