Chester Kirby Life Story
Chester Leon Kirby was born in Liberty Grove, Dallas County, Texas on October 14, 1930, the only child of Chester Lee and Maxie Irene Kirby. He passed at age 88 on March 25, 2019 at Good Shepherd Hospital surrounded by his family.
As a 1948 graduate of Garland High School, he began his career in the oilfield industry with Emsco D&B, later becoming LTV Energy Products, in Garland before retiring in 1985. In 1951 he married his sweetheart for life, Betty Nell Smith, and together they began an inseparable life enjoying 67 years before his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, son Dr. Chris L. Kirby, his wife Tempe of Longview, their children Landen Kirby and Sierra Stegall; nieces DeAnne and Joe Driver of Garland; Karen and Chuck Finney of Plano; Kay and James Rountree of Allen; nephew Mike and Lynn Tomlinson of Lubbock; sister-in-law Ruth Smith of Mesquite, several great nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loving friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Kathy Ann.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Rd, Longview, Tx 75605 in the Garden Court on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Life Celebration will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 in The Chapel of Welch Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request with gratitude that memorials be made to Wiseman Ministries House of Disciples, P O Box 1207, Longview, TX 75606.
Our family wishes to thank the host of friends, doctors and nurses who have cared so lovingly for Leon during these past several months.
