Cecil Wayne Wilson, age 93, died peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2019 in Longview, Texas. He was born on July 15, 1925 in Flat Creek, TX to Harvey Boone Wilson and Verna Mae Wilson. Cecil attended East Texas Baptist College and Southern Methodist University. He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II. On April 4, 1947 he married Margarite Louise Strickland in Greenville, TX. He worked for Maytag in Greenville, TX and Pacific Finance in Garland, TX ultimately moving to Longview, TX in 1963 to begin his career at Longview National Bank where he retired as Sr. Vice President of Lending. Cecil lived a long and full life. Spending time with his family and friends brought Cecil unending joy. Those that knew Cecil the best, were always struck by his kindness, patience and memory; you could always rely on Cecil to have a handful of great stories to tell. He also enjoyed his time at Caddo Lake cooking catfish, taking friends on his barge and gardening with his grandchildren. Cecil spent a great deal of his free time helping others – he was a member of Elks Lodge for many years. Cecil was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Longview and - in his twilight years - found comfort and joy in the men’s bible study. For the past six years Cecil spent most of his time with his K-9 companion, Cole. A Life Celebration will be held Thursday, February 7th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Welch Funeral Home with Bro. Craig Evers officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service. Cecil is preceded in death by his wife Louise, brothers Harold and Bobby and sister Helen Wilson. Left to honor Cecil and remember his love are his two children, Daryl Wilson and wife Sue of Longview, and Marilyn Wilson of Longview; three grandchildren; Justin Wilson, Emily (Davis) Ziegler and husband John, and Natalie (Wilson) Lowe and husband Drew; three great grandchildren; Charlotte Ziegler, Connor Lowe, and Davis Ziegler.
