Unique Urns for Your Loved One

by Welch Funeral Home

Urns have come a long way in the past years. One reason may be due to the fact that cremation services in Longview, TX. are becoming a more common choice. While once burials were the most popular option, many individuals and families are choosing cremation.

With the rising trend in cremation, providers of urns have started to design more and more options. These choices range from traditional urns of various colors and designs to some more unusual and creative designs. Today we are going to talk about some of these newer, more unique urn ideas.

The Candle Urn

This urn is still pretty traditional but does have an added element of a candle. Typically this urn will look like a normal display urn with the cremains being housed inside the urn, but have a space for a candle to be placed on top of the urn. The candle can be lit anytime to create a loving tribute. Once the candle has been burned, it can be easily replaced with a new one.

An Urn That is Also an Hourglass

For those who would like something to serve as a reminder of how life and time are precious and limited, an hourglass urn might be a good choice. While these aren’t the most accurate pieces, they work in the same way as an hourglass does. The difference is that instead of the hourglass being filled with sand, it is filled with a portion of remains. This makes a very unique urn.

Stuffed Animal Urn

If you would like something that you can actually cuddle with, a stuffed animal urn is perfect. This urn is made just as any other stuffed animal except that inside there is a special compartment with a soft pouch that holds the remains. These are a comforting way to keep your loved one close and be able to snuggle with them. You can find these in a variety of teddy bears and other animals.

Jewelry Urn

While this isn’t an entire urn, cremation jewelry offers a way to keep a very small portion of your loved one’s remains with you by placing them in a piece of jewelry. These pieces can be found online in options such as bracelets, rings, necklaces, and more. Each piece has a small compartment either made into the jewelry or added on, such as with a charm or pendant, that you fill with a portion of the remains.

The Floating Shelf Urn

The floating shelf urn is truly unique in that it doesn’t look like an urn at all. In fact, it appears to be just another shelf on the wall. This is a great option if you wish to have your loved one close but do not want to make it obvious there is an urn. While this shelf doesn’t look like an urn, it acts as one housing your loved one’s cremains inside. It is also nice because the shelf provides a place to set things on such as mementos or pictures of your loved one.
