Creative Ways to Honor Your Loved One

by Welch Funeral Home

Losing a loved one is never easy. It can be a devasting blow and take everything we have to work through the grief and accept this new reality. While nothing will ever take away all of the pain completely, doing things that honor and remember your loved one can help us cope with the grief in a healthy way. After your loved one’s cremation services in White Oak, TX. here are some ideas to help pay tribute to them as well as help you begin to heal.

Do Something That They Loved

Did your loved one have a favorite hobby or activity they enjoyed? This could be anything from playing football to cooking or just simply taking a walk in the park. Think about what they enjoyed and then so the same. Taking part in this activity that they loved can help you feel close and connected to them while keeping their spirit alive.

Create a Tribute or Memorial

Keep your loved one’s memory alive by creating a memorial. The wonderful thing about this idea is that it can take many forms. It could be a bench that you have engraved and donate to a local park or arboretum or simply a plaque that you add to an existing structure in your own backyard or garden. There are truly so many ways to create a memorial, both big and small. Some other ideas include:

- Creating a memorial wall in your home with photographs

- Planting a tree in their honor

- Planting a special garden with all of your loved one’s favorite flowers

- Creating a memorial scrapbook

- Organize a memorial walk or fun run

Support Something They Stood For

If your loved one had a cause, belief, or charity they stood for, keep that passion alive by making a donation to an organization that shares this idea. You could contribute a money donation or even donating your time by volunteering. You can also contact the organization and see is there is any other way to help. For example, sometimes places like animal rescue shelters need dog and cat food or extra old blankets.

Finish Uncompleted Projects

Are there any projects your loved one left uncompleted? A wonderful way to feel connected to your loved one and keep their spirit alive is to finish these projects. These tasks could range from painting a room in the house, to organizing a closet or writing a book. Whatever it is, big or small, finish it. If you feel you can’t do it alone or need more help, ask other family members for help or even hire professionals if need be.

Set a Place at the Table

This is a simple yet very impactful idea. When setting the table for dinner, place an extra place setting in honor of your loved one. You could so this every night at family dinner or for special occasions like holidays and birthday dinners. Seeing the place setting there is a nice reminder of your loved one and helps you feel they are still close.
